Today I had an english muffin with cream cheese for breakfast. We left the place we were staying in Florida around 1:30. Before we left we stopped at a grocery store to get some sushi and sandwhiches for the road. I got some spicy rolls.. I think one was yellowtail, one was eel and one was tuna and an Italian Sub. I also picked up some organic white cheddar cheetos which were quite good. We got in to Santee, South Carolina around 9:30 and got a room at the Holiday Inn. I asked the lady at the front desk where I could eat and she said this place named Clark's was open until 10 so I rushed all of our stuff upstairs and ran back out to Clark's. I walked up to the door and a kid who looked exactly like Terrell Owens opened the door and said they just closed. I called Jody and she decided she wanted Burger King so I went there and got her a Tendergrill Value meal and a Hershey Pie. The aroma of the BK fries overtook my car and I started to go crazy but I kept myself in check. I had no other options but to go to a gas station and try to find something to heat up in the hotel microwave. The first gas station I pulled up to was really dark and there were two creepy fat people outside on rocking chairs so I literally pulled up to a parking space right in front of them and immediately backed the hell out of there. Next was an EZ stop convenience store. The only thing that I could possibly eat there was a hot dog but when I opened the little oven thing they were a very strange bright pink color. I finally settled on CVS where I picked up a Lean Cuisine four cheese pizza. Tomorrow will be the last day of traveling so I won't have to deal with crap like that anymore.
On to the Top 5 Breaded Chicken Finger Foods. I have to say that one of my favorite breaded chicken finger foods that is no longer around is the KFC chicken nugget. I don't remember how long ago they got rid of it but I do remember that it was absolutely amazing. The restaurants eligible for this list were noted in the last entry. Sonic is not included on this list because I have never had their chicken strips. "Breaded Chicken Finger Food" is a term which is used to include chicken tenders, nuggets, and strips.
Number 5 is a tie...
5a. McDonalds Chicken McNugget- While I do like the McNgget, too often I find myself having an unpleasant McNugget experience due to poor preparation by the staff. It is really, really gross if you get an undercooked McNugget or one of those McNuggets where the meat is all weird. I also haven't ever been the same since I failed in my attempt to eat 60 McNuggets in January of 2006.
5b. Burger King Chicken Fries- A newer item in the Breaded Chicken finger food category, chicken fries were introduced in 2005 and are available as a 6, 9, or 12 piece. A little known fact: BK offered a 36 piece party pack when the chicken fries first came out. The flavor is a bit better than BK's chicken tenders ( they are TENDERS by the way, not nuggets, I hate when people used to come to BK and order nuggets). You also get much more bang for your buck with the chicken fries.
4. Checkers Chicken Strips- Although I don't often get them from Checker's, I have to rate them number 4 overall on my list. I love Checker's Buffalo sauce which is an absolute must when eating these strips. According to my research, Checkers came out with the strips in 2006 but I seem to remember enjoying them much earlier than that.
3. KFC chicken strips- The strength in KFC's chicken strips is their versatility. You can get them in original recipe, Honey BBQ, Fiery Buffalo, or Sweet n' Spicy. I personally prefer the original recipe dipped in BBQ sauce. Also, please check out this link that I found during my research on KFC chicken strips... I may or may not be RedneckRev: LOL KFC
2. Wendy's chicken nuggets- Wendy's all white meat nuggets have long been a favorite of mine. They have always been a great value with the 5 piece being just 99 cents. They have a bit more a peppery taste that reminds me of KFC's nuggets. I usually dip with bbq sauce or sweet and sour sauce.
and nummmmmber
1. Chick Fil A nuggets- Despite not being able to eat these wonderful little nuggets on Sundays, they still top my list as the best breaded chicken finger food. Their unique shapes and unique taste set them apart from all other fast food chains attempts at chicken finger food. They are described by Chick Fil A as bite sized pieces of tender all breast meat chicken, seasoned to perfection, hand breaded, and pressure cooked in peanut oil. The peanut oil gives the nugget that intense flavor that overwhelms the soul. It also helps that Chick Fil A has the best BBQ sauce and ranch sauces.
Thoughts?

This is a difficult topic for me to comment on b/c the majority of my breaded chicken finger food experience is with Checkers and Wendy's. Obviously i've had BK chicken tenders, but it just seems like it's been so long. During my college years, Checkers and Wendy's won most of my fast food attention. I've had Chick Fil A nuggets, but I do not have enough experience with them to make a fair judegment.
ReplyDeleteCheckers most definitely had chicken strips before 2006. I vividly remember getting the 3 piece homestyle chicken strip box (3 strips, fries, ranch & buffalo sauce), a spicy chicken sandwich, and a banana milkshake at least 3 times a week in 2002. They later introduced the screaming chicken strips. These were so incredibly delicious. They offered them as a standalone item, or, for a brief period of time, in sandwich form.
Overall, I think your list is pretty good. Here is my personal top 5 list:
1) Wendy's- Wendy's nuggets are just consistently delicious. They are always hot, crisp, and have a great breading to meat ratio. At 99 cents, they are the best value in the game.
2) Checkers- See above. The only downfall of checkers is the staff and environment. Because of the architectural design and overall concept of Checkers, the food can often get cold in the winter season. Obviously, this is not true with all Checkers, but this has happen to me many times at the infamous Checkers on Broad & Girard. Still delicious when you're 3 Hurricanes deep.
3) Arby's- I'm really shocked that you did not include Arby's in your list. Arby's had some of the best chicken strips in the game. Also, I have had their popcorn chicken shaker jawns and they are equally delicious.
4) BK- BK tenders were just never that high up on my list. I don't really know why. I think i may have had a bad experience before. I don't think BK offers a good sauce to compliment their tenders either.
5) ???- Number 5 is an open slot for me. I would probably just fill it in with Chick Fil A, but I don't think that I would be doing them justice. I know that their nuggets are delicious, but i just haven't eaten them enough.
FU*K McDonald's. My child will never step foot in one. Even if one of his/her lil' cracka friend has a bday party there, I will sit his/her ass at home.

What if Ava has a party there?
ReplyDeleteWhen you make a list with ties, the a and b entries take up two spots. You made two entries that took up 1, and essentially made a top 6, which must have eased your decision making.
ReplyDeleteThat said, excellent call on the long departed KFC chicken nugget (god point). I vividly recall getting them as a kid and thinking they were delicious.
Wendy's has this list in a chokehold. The breading has some peppery kick, and visible pepper flecks which goes a long way. They're always served piping hot, and the value cannot be denied. Head and shoulders above the competition, everyone else is playing for second. I could go on. I basically have a semi. If it wasn't so cold and far, i'd walk there for lunch right now.
Arby's is the best of the rest. I've said their stips were the balls since Deptford high. There sauce game is up, and the strips are real meaty and.
Checkers would have come in second if not for me consistently having bowel issues after eating their strips. That said their sauce combo (buffalo and ranch) was/is top notch.
Ive always had a soft spot for the McNugget, even back when it was made out of mystery chicken flavored bits. probably stems from childhood memories of downing 20 pieces as an 8 year old as my mother looked on in horror. Their new all white meat entry is a thinly veiled attempt to keep pace with Wendy's. I would have respected them more if they stuck with the rib meat weirdness that became their nuggets' signature flavor. Besides, as we all know, most things that are "all white" are terrible.
